Themes and Narrative Style

Judy Greer, Michael Cera, and Nia Long deliver excellent performances, expertly stabilizing the film's distinct blend of anxiety-inducing humor and raw emotion. Director Janicza Bravo is successful in her representation of a guy's tonal shift from apathy to unsolved anger and the surrounding absurdities of his life.

Conclusion
"Lemon" is eccentric, to state the least. It's a movie that declines to conform to traditional storytelling and funny standards, which could polarize audience opinions. However, for some, it's an insightful, even if uncomfortable, look into the life of a man besieged by existential dread. The film is an appealing representation of the human struggle with failure and insignificance, wrapped up in a cloak of surreal and in some cases cringe-inducing funny. You might discover yourself chuckling and cringing all at the same time, a testimony to the special style of satire utilized in "Lemon". Regardless of its upsetting method, "Lemon" serves a purpose, providing an awkwardly amusing salve to the bitter truths of life's difficulties.
