"Revenge", a 1999 film, is an extreme drama with aspects of action, romance, and thriller. The movie stars Kevin Costner as Colonel Michael 'Jay' Cochran, Anthony Quinn as Tibey Mirasol, and Madeleine Stowe as Miryea, Tibey's other half. Directed by Tony Scott, "Revenge" is based upon a novella by Jim Harrison and checks out the themes of betrayal, revenge, and desire.

Plot Synopsis
Kevin Costner's character, Cochran, just recently retired from the United States Navy, heads to Mexico to go to Mirasol, a powerful Mexican businessman and a friend. Cochran soon gets captured in a torrid affair with Mirasol's beautiful wife, Miryea. Their furtive romantic experiences quickly erupt into major problem when Mirasol finds their relationship and chooses to punish them for their betrayal.

The punishment is swift and brutal. Mirasol's goons beat Cochran almost to death, leaving him for dead in the Mexican desert while Miryea is taken to be 'disciplined' by Mirasol's hooligan Amador. Miryea is then condemned to a whorehouse run by a lady known as the Fat Lady.

Characters and Performances
Costner, as Colonel Cochran, delivers a strong performance communicating a series of feelings, from joy and lust to distress and rage. Madeleine Stowe provides an unforgettable efficiency as Miryea, conveying her character's torment and desperation with profound strength. Anthony Quinn's representation of Mirasol excellently highlights the character's callous yet scorned personality.

Themes and Conclusion
"Revenge" delves into extensive aspects of human habits and mind, such as unmanageable enthusiasm, treachery, and the drive for revenge. The film expertly demonstrates the high expense of revenge and the destructive force it can become. It presents a brilliant depiction of the course of destruction that betrayal and revenge can lead to, with awful consequences for all included.

Nevertheless, the ending of the film is awful as Miryea dies in Cochran's arms from an earlier fight's injuries, leaving Cochran alone with his vengeance partly satisfied but at a devastating expense.
