Film Overview
"The Big Wedding" (2013) is an American romantic comedy-drama directed by Justin Zackham. The film includes an ensemble cast that consists of Robert De Niro, Katherine Heigl, Diane Keaton, Amanda Seyfried, Topher Grace, Ben Barnes, Susan Sarandon, and Robin Williams. It is a remake of the 2006 French movie "Mon frère se marie" and follows the lavish preparations of a lavish wedding, made complex by the eccentricities and convolutions of an unconventional household.

Plot Summary
The primary storyline of "The Big Wedding" focuses on Don Griffin (Robert De Niro), a successful sculptor, and his ex-wife, Ellie Griffin (Diane Keaton). They were separated a decade earlier after Don's affair with Bebe (Susan Sarandon), who is now his partner. The Griffin's adopted boy, Alejandro (Ben Barnes), is getting married to Missy O'Connor (Amanda Seyfried), with the entire household together for the lavish occasion.

Alejandro was initially from Colombia and raised as a Catholic. His biological mom, Madonna (Patricia Rae), is coming from Colombia for the wedding event, but as a devout Catholic, she does not think in divorce. To appreciate her beliefs and not to distress her, Alejandro requests Don and Ellie to pretend they're still married throughout the wedding preparations and the event.

Household Dynamics and Complications
Contributing to the household dynamics are the Griffins' two other kids-- Lyla (Katherine Heigl), a physician who's going through a divorce and has strained relationships within the family, and Jared (Topher Grace), a 30-year-old virgin medical professional. Bebe, Don's current partner, feels hurt with the charade and leaves Don, including further tension to the household.

Throughout the wedding weekend, numerous family tricks decipher. Lyla learns she's pregnant just when she's on the verge of separating her other half. Jared, tired of awaiting "the one", is brought in to Alejandro's biological sister, Nuria, and eventually loses his virginity to her.

Conclusion and Wedding
At the wedding, Father Monaghan (Robin Williams) officiates the wedding, in the middle of the confusion and chaos. Don gets intoxicated, causing an unexpected confession in which he reveals that he and Bebe remain in a relationship. Despite the initial shock, Ellie accepts the reality and even manages to comfort a sad Bebe.

In the end, Alejandro informs Madonna the fact about Don and Ellie. Surprisingly, Madonna exposes that she's understood all along and appreciates Ellie for her kindness, regardless of Don's betrayal. The motion picture concludes with all misconceptions cleared, secrets unwinded, and the family celebrating Alejandro and Missy's marriage.
