Plot Summary
The movie revolves around Steve Ventura (Anthony Quinn), a DEA representative in France, investigating a series of drug-related murders. Steve thinks that Jacques Brizzard (James Mason), an affluent entrepreneur, lags these murders and drug trafficking activities. Not able to progress through authorities channels, Steve hires hitman John Deray (Michael Caine), an old friend and former associate, to assassinate Brizzard. Deray, a professional assasin, focuses on making his eliminates appear accidental. He gets here in France and starts to collect information on Brizzard's everyday activities, methodically planning his strike.

Romance and Tension
Deray is at first very concentrated on his objective, however his attention is diverted when he succumbs to an appealing female, Brizzard's better half, Rita (Alexandra Stewart). His romantic participation with Rita complicates things, as she does not understand his actual purpose for remaining in Marseille.

Climax
The climax arrives when Deray attempts to assassinate Brizzard at a bullfighting event. His effort is not successful due to Brizzard's undercover bodyguards finding his plan. Following the stopped working assassination effort, Brizzard recognizes Deray was actually trying to assassinate him and not simply another visitor. In reaction, Brizzard manages to record Deray and brings him to his place in an effort to kill him.

Resolution
Upon reaching your house, Deray leaves from Brizzard's men and ends up killing them. In exchange for her partner's life, Rita misconstrues and thinks that Deray has been sent to kill her. Brizzard is eliminated by Steve when he threatens to shoot Deray as he leaves. After Brizzard's death, Steve permits Deray to get away, knowing the French cops will still be after him. Deray departs however not before bidding farewell to Rita, leaving her shocked and shocked. The motion picture ends on a mournful note, with Steve resuming his responsibilities, Rita left in anguish, and Deray disappearing into the anonymity from whence he came.
