"Total Recall" is a 2012 American science fiction action film directed by Len Wiseman and starring Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, Bryan Cranston, and Bill Nighy. The movie is a reboot of the 1990 movie of the very same name, both inspired by the 1966 short fiction story "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale" by Philip K. Dick.

Plot Synopsis
Embed in 2084, the Earth is divided into two territories after being devastated by chemical warfare; the wealthy United Federation of Britain (UFB) and the impoverished Colony (formerly Australia). Individuals of the Colony travel to the UFB for work by means of a massive gravity elevator named 'The Fall' running through Earth's core.

Main Characters
Colin Farrell plays Douglas Quaid, a Colony factory worker suffering from recurring problems about being a spy and experiences irregular memories. His better half, Lori (Kate Beckinsale), is a soothing existence in his struggling life. Intrigued by a service called Rekall that implants artificial memories, Quaid chooses to have spy memories implanted to escape his mundane life.

Twist of Fate
Nevertheless, this treatment reveals that his existing life is a false-memory syndrome, and he genuinely is a spy now hunted by police since of his knowledge of an upcoming UFB invasion of the Colony. Lori reveals herself as a UFB operative ordered to keep track of Quaid, and ends up being an unrelenting assassin pursuing him.

The Battle
Quaid teams up with a resistance fighter called Melina (Jessica Biel). Together, they sign up with the resistance motion, led by the enigmatic Matthias (Bill Nighy), to stop the impending intrusion led by UFB's dictatorial leader Chancellor Cohagen (Bryan Cranston). Quaid should fight to conserve the Colony, wrestle with his identity, and find if he's the man in his dreams or the building and construction worker he as soon as thought he was.

Quaid and Melina penetrate the UFB where they manage to sabotage the UFB's strategy, resulting in a face-off with Cohagen. Caught in 'The Fall' as it speeds back to the Colony, Quaid and Cohagen battle, with Cohagen being ejected and killed. Quaid handles to disarm the bomb sure to ravage the Colony. Quaid saves the Colony and damages 'The Fall', ending the UFB's oppressive reign.

Securely back in the Colony, Quaid now lives as a hero. It is hinted that he might still be within the fabricated memory situation from Rekall. This leaves audiences questioning the reality of Quaid's heroics.

On the whole, the 2012 "Total Recall" is an enthusiastic reboot featuring ruthless action, a gripping storyline, and exceptional efficiencies, highlighting a dystopian future based upon memory manipulation and class struggle.
