This quote by Luigi Pirandello talks to the idea that, on the surface area, we all present ourselves with a particular level of dignity and regard. We might be respectful and courteous to one another, but deep down, we all know the reality about what goes on in our hearts. We all have our own inner struggles and tricks that we keep hidden from the world. We may be able to place on an exterior of respectability, but we all understand that we are capable of unspeakable things. This quote is a suggestion that, while we might have the ability to put on a program of respectability, we need to always remember the darkness that lies within us.
