This quote by Solon motivates us to be conscious of our intentions when offering suggestions to our good friends. It is important to keep in mind that our objective should be to help our buddies, not to please them. We must be truthful and supply our buddies with recommendations that remains in their best interest, even if it might not be what they wish to hear. We must be helpful and understanding, however also want to challenge our friends and assist them to grow. We should be willing to provide our buddies with useful criticism and assistance, rather than just telling them what they want to hear. Eventually, our objective should be to help our friends, not to please them.
