"Never question the relevance of truth, but always question the truth of relevance"

Truth and relevance, though often intertwined, are not synonymous. It is important never to doubt the inherent value of truth itself; truth holds a fundamental and unassailable place in understanding reality. Truth forms the backbone of integrity, communication, and knowledge. Without respect for truth, meaning dissolves and relationships suffer. Dismissing the relevance of truth is to risk a descent into confusion or manipulation; truth remains indispensable regardless of the immediate context or current trends.

However, not every claim of relevance inherently possesses truth. What is presented as “relevant” can sometimes be misleading, shaped by subjective interests, societal trends, or even manipulation. Relevance is determined by context, social climate, practicality, or emotional resonance. The relevance of an idea, event, or fact may appear significant because it responds to current needs or perspectives, but that does not automatically validate its truthfulness. Therefore, when something is deemed relevant, a critical mind asks: is it genuinely true, or merely convenient or persuasive? By questioning the truth behind what is asserted as relevant, one maintains intellectual honesty and resists being swayed by superficial or manipulated urgencies.

Allowing the allure of relevance to override the necessity of truth can lead to misinformation, superficial thinking, and emotional manipulation. On the other hand, upholding truth for its own sake ensures that relevance does not become a tool for deception. While truth is perennial and constant, relevance is fluid and often subjective. The balance lies in holding truth as a non-negotiable foundation and rigorously examining whether the things being labeled as 'relevant' have genuine authenticity. Critical engagement with both concepts preserves the legitimacy of discourse and guards against the erosion of meaning in personal and public life. The pursuit of authenticity requires cherishing truth while relentlessly questioning what is presented as relevant.
