"Neatness begets order; but from order to taste there is the same difference as from taste to genius, or from love to friendship"

This quote by Johann Kaspar Lavater talks to the importance of neatness and order in life. Neatness is the primary step to developing order, but it takes more than simply neatness to achieve true order. To move from order to taste requires a level of imagination and artistry that is not easily accomplished. Likewise, to move from taste to genius needs a level of intelligence and insight that is not quickly obtained. Lastly, to move from love to relationship requires a level of trust and understanding that is not easily established. In essence, Lavater is suggesting that it takes more than just neatness to achieve real order, taste, genius, love, and friendship. It takes hard work, devotion, and a determination to find out and grow.
