This quote is from James Lind's 1753 book, A Treatise of the Scurvy. In it, he defines a research study he conducted on seafarers experiencing scurvy. The quote is defining the treatment he offered to 6 of the sailors. He gave them a mixture of vinegar as well as water, which they consumed alcohol half a pint of everyday. This was indicated to function as a mild laxative. He also offered two of the seafarers 2 oranges and one lemon each day. The sailors consumed these with interest, on an empty belly. This therapy achieved success in curing the scurvy, and also Lind's job was a major development in the understanding of the disease. His searchings for contributed in boosting the health and wellness of seafarers and decreasing the mortality price of scurvy.
