The target is not inspiration itself but an imbalance that leaves students rhetorically enthused and practically disarmed. A democratic society requires people who can read statistics as well as speeches, critique ideology as well as celebrate identity, and connect private aspirations to public structures. Frazier urged schools to make research habits ordinary: gather data, question premises, compare sources, and follow facts even when they unsettle cherished stories.

The line still resonates. Motivational messaging saturates classrooms and media, yet misinformation expands and civic trust erodes. Rebalancing toward information does not extinguish purpose; it grounds it. When inspiration sets the direction and information charts the route, education becomes a means not only of personal uplift but of collective transformation.
