About this Quote

This quote by Søren Kierkegaard is a commentary on the state of contemporary society. He is recommending that in our present age, everything is so quickly available and offered that it has actually become devalued. People are no longer going to put in the effort to get something of worth, as it can be gotten so quickly. This holds true not only in terms of material products, however likewise in regards to concepts. Individuals are no longer willing to believe deeply and seriously about ideas, as they can be discovered so quickly and quickly. This has caused a decline of ideas, as they are no longer viewed as something of worth. In the end, Kierkegaard is suggesting that this decline of concepts and items will cause an absence of interest in obtaining them.
