This quote by Meghan Markle speaks to the need for a shift in the method we view gender functions and expectations. She is calling for a change in the method we think of women, and for men to take responsibility for their part in perpetuating gender inequality. She is stating that as long as women are viewed as the weaker sex, we will constantly be defending our rights. This is due to the fact that the power imbalance in between men and women is so entrenched in our society that it will take a cumulative effort to shift it. Male need to acknowledge their benefit and use it to produce a more equitable society. Women require to continue to fight for their rights and need to be treated as equals. Only then can we create a society where everybody is respected and offered the very same chances.
