- Michael Behe

About this Quote

Ernst Haeckel was a German biologist and theorist who proposed the concept of biogenesis, which mentions that living organisms can just originate from other living organisms. He thought that the most basic kinds of life, such as germs and protozoa, might not have arisen from inanimate product. However, Haeckel was open to the concept that more intricate forms of life might have been produced from inanimate product. He believed that the procedure of development might have been accountable for the advancement of more complex organisms from easier ones. Hence, it seemed to Haeckel that such basic life could easily be produced from inanimate product, which more intricate types of life might have developed from them. Haeckel's concepts were innovative for his time, and they laid the structure for modern evolutionary theory.
